About EDU-KI-RLP

EDU-KI-RLP is a joint offering based on HAWKI, developed by the participating universities in Rhineland-Palatinate and the Virtual Campus Rhineland-Palatinate (VCRP). For more information about the project, visit edu-ki-rlp.de.

About HAWKI

HAWKI was developed at the Interaction Design Lab of HAWK to provide all university members with the opportunity to integrate artificial intelligence into work processes and create a collaborative space that may lead to new ways of working and foster internal university discussions about the use of AI. This offering also aims to provide didactic support to help develop an understanding of how such a language model works and provides hints on effective prompts (text inputs) in various areas. We welcome constructive feedback to further develop this offering in line with your needs and insights.

Usage Guidelines for HAWKI

A collection of materials on AI with general and specific information about our services can be found here. Please also consider any specific AI guidelines of your university.

Note: This guide is currently only available in its original form, which exclusively refers to the HAWKI technological foundation. It does not yet sufficiently reflect that the EDU-KI-Chat based on it can be used at other universities and independently of OpenAI/ChatGPT. By the end of the pilot phase, the guide will be updated accordingly.

Welcome to the usage guidelines for HAWKI. These guidelines refer to the HAWKI technology platform and are intended to provide all university members – students, teachers, and staff – with clear instructions on how to use this technology responsibly. Please note that this guide supplements the terms of use of OpenAI and does not claim to be exhaustive. It is the users' responsibility to comply with these terms.

General Provisions

What is prohibited:

  • Entering personal data about oneself or others.
  • Using the services for illegal, harmful, or abusive activities.
  • Infringement, abuse, or violation of others' rights.
  • Modification, copying, renting, selling, or distributing our services.
  • Attempt at reverse engineering, decompiling, or discovering source code or underlying components.
  • Automatic or programmed extraction of data or output.
  • Claiming that the output was created by humans when it was not.
  • Interfering with or disrupting the services or circumventing protective measures.
  • Using the output to develop competing models.

What to consider:

You are responsible for the input you provide and the resulting output. You must ensure that your input does not infringe any rights and that you have all necessary rights, licenses, and permissions to provide it.

Accuracy:

Using the services can lead to inaccurate or incorrect output. It is important that you critically examine the output and not use it as the sole source of truth. Your inputs are not stored by HAWK, but by OpenAI for 30 days to detect any misuse. After 30 days, the data is deleted. Your inputs are not used to improve the product's safety or quality.

Specific Provisions

There is a provisional guideline and an independence declaration for using generative AI systems.

For students:

  • Use HAWKI to support your learning process, but do not rely solely on the generated answers.
  • Do not share personal data or information through HAWKI. Not even others' personal data.
  • You take on authorship. This means you vouch for the quality of the answer and take responsibility for the content. The use of AI and the nature of its contribution should be clarified.

For teachers:

  • It is prohibited to use HAWKI to correct student papers if they contain personal data that can be extracted.
  • Use HAWKI as a supplementary tool to prepare teaching materials, but make sure all content is checked for accuracy and relevance.

For staff:

  • It is strictly prohibited to enter confidentiality agreements or internally specified documents into HAWKI. As well as documents containing personal data about oneself or others.
  • Use HAWKI to increase efficiency and support your daily tasks, while observing the university's privacy policies and security regulations.

This guide serves as an orientation aid for the responsible handling of HAWKI. It is important that all users understand and follow these provisions to ensure safe and ethical use of this technology. The university can only offer this service if you do not enter personal data. For any questions or uncertainties, please contact Prof. Stefan Wölwer, Arian Sadafi, Jonas Trippler, or Vincent Timm. Regardless of this guide, the OpenAI Terms of Use apply.

EDU-KI Chat for Universities in Rhineland-Palatinate

Note: This offering is currently in a pilot phase and is intended to be provided here on a long-term basis.

About the Project

The EDU-KI Chat is an AI-powered chat platform for universities in Rhineland-Palatinate. The tool supports teachers and students in integrating artificial intelligence into their everyday teaching and learning activities. The EDU-KI Chat offers privacy-friendly, flexible features tailored to academic needs.

Key Features

Flexible Use: Teachers and students can use the EDU-KI Chat flexibly: through a general AI chat, with various fictional experts, or by asking questions in learning spaces, e.g., about academic work.

Diverse AI Models: Various AI models are available for different tasks, from simple tasks and everyday inquiries to complex analyses and programming support. Users can select an option that fits their specific needs and can switch between models for comparison.

Data Protection and Security: The chat service does not store conversations on the VCRP side; they are only held encrypted in the browser. When using free language models, no chat content is logged, cached, or used for training purposes according to the GWDG service's privacy policy. For OpenAI models, content is excluded from training by default but may remain accessible and persistent to the provider.

Sustainability: The chat service is a development project in collaboration with the participating universities in Rhineland-Palatinate. It is planned as a long-term offering that will be continuously developed and supported.

Extensibility: In addition to free language models, OpenAI ChatGPT can also be integrated at the university level or individually in Learning Management Systems like OpenOlat.
